Earlier this year, I was so excited to help Dale capture the moment that he proposed to Jess at Universal Studios. He had a grand scheme of leading Jess into Hogwarts and proposing in front of the Mirror of Erised, and my job was to secretly set up my camera in a corner to take photos/video without Jess realizing what was happening. I visited Universal in advance to make sure I knew the layout of where I could position myself for the upcoming Harry Potter-themed proposal.
When the day of the proposal arrived, I went into Hogwarts and positioned myself and my tripod just outside the queue, which is where the Mirror of Erised was. I eagerly waited until I spotted the couple moving forward in the queue, and Jess stopped in front of the Mirror, which was the latest clue in a scavenger hunt that Dale had created for her. As she stood there, Dale held up a sign that said “Will you marry me?” printed backwards so that it reflected in the mirror, and then he knelt down.
Having already waited a while in line, the newly engaged couple continued on to the ride, and then we took photos afterward outside Hogwarts.
With Christmas holiday still in full swing, the crowds made it really difficult to get certain shots, but we still found some nice places in Hogsmeade to take more photos.
Finally, we wandered the park just a bit to get a few more shots in the Jurassic Park land before our session ended.
It was truly amazing to capture such a magical moment. Although the location at Universal took me out of my Disney comfort zone, it was fun to explore a new setting that was also infused with plenty of magic and whimsy. I look forward to taking more photos there, now that I have an annual pass!
