My friend Meredith is known for her wonderfully creative Halloween costumes, and this year I was hoping to get in on the action by photographing the costume she and her husband Jake made.
Meredith was dressed as George Sanderson, the unfortunate “Scarer” from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc who accidentally brought a human object into the monster world after a scaring mission to elicit the human screams that are necessary to generate power in the monster world.
Upon the discovery of the child’s sock that was stuck to George’s back, the Child Detection Agency was called to eliminate the threat. Jake played a CDA agent.
I suggested that we re-enact the scene for some of our images, so we had Jake charge across the room toward Meredith.
After charging into the scare factory, the CDA agents wrestle George to the floor so they can remove the sock from his back and then destroy it.
Although we had fun acting out this scene, we just didn’t feel inspired.
We went back and rewatched the scene from the movie. We decided that we needed to replicate the same angles as the movie, so I lay on the ground and captured the action from down there.
